Dax O’Callaghan was trained at the legendary Sylvia Young Theatre School and was a seasoned professional performer at a very young age. At 10 years old he played the lead role ‘Gavroche’ in Les Miserables in London’s West End and then went on to be the first person to play ‘The Artful Dodger’ in the Cameron Mackintosh production of Oliver at the London Palladium, West End.
He featured in over 60 TV Commercials before leaving School along with TV lead roles in EastEnders playing the character Jack Price, Casualty, Hope & Glory, Trial by Jury and The Knock. To add to his burgeoning credits he was also a TV Presenter for Nickelodeon, the world-wide Children’s channel. His dance ability and passion for movement was also significant and in his early teens he performed on stage with the Spice Girls, Sugababes, Royal Variety, was part of Wayne Sleep’s production DASH, and had toured Europe in Fashion and trade shows.
At 16 years old Dax became the youngest ever teacher at the world famous Pineapple Dance Studios, teaching full-time classes training professionals. His classes are still rammed to the rafters to this day at Pineapple and he holds hugely popular workshops across the globe.
At 19 Dax was signed as a solo recording artist to Warner International achieving huge success in the European pop charts with his first No.1 – this lead to him signing a contract with Universal Music two years later to be part of the boyband Lexington Bridge – who went on to become one of Germany’s most successful groups, notching up 5 Number 1’s across 7 different countries across Europe, one of their Singles featured legendary U.S rapper Snoop Dogg. Dax choreographed all seven music videos for his boyband and also both of their European Tours whilst a singing artist.
His experience in performance and skill at creating young, fresh, innovative choreography was noted by other artists who would approach for collaborations with their own projects as Dax became Creative Director for Germany’s reality hit TV show Popstars where he mentored the winning group, choreographing their music video and European Tour.
From here Dax would go on to choreograph for Olly Murs (Thinking of Me music video), Elyar Fox (Do It All Over Again), Jedward (Eurovision Song Contest), MNEK, Andrea Begley (winner of The voice 2013), Mike Skinner, worked as assistant choreographer for JLS’s Arena Tour “Outta This World”, and lent his choreographic talents to the famous T-Mobile Flash-mob commercial at Heathrow Airport, to name a few.
Dax has gone on to choreograph many music videos, TV Commercials, and stage productions where his credits have earned him an invitation to be part of the judging panel at the the annual ASDU European Open Championships and also guest judge UDO World Dance Championships – two of the most acclaimed Dance Competitions across the globe. His work in music production and song writing is also impressive. Having spent time living in Los Angeles working with legendary producer Teddy Riley, Dax has produced music for Kelly Rowland, JLS, Pixie Lott, Alexandra Burke, Little Mix, and the Dancing On Ice Tour. Creating re-mixes, along with original compositions, for their tours, tv performances, and album projects.
All of this experience came together in one project when Dax wrote the groundbreaking show SOLDIER. A theatre project with a spellbinding emotinal storyline expressed through lyrical urban dance. Dax would not only write this master piece but composed an original soundtrack on top of choreographing the contemporary urban dance style. Soldier has performed to a soldout audience at every London theatre it has been performed. In 2013 the show was invited to be presented at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it gained 5 Star press reviews and once again had soldout audiences. SOLDIER is now the fresh unique show which audiences want to see. It’s original concept brings a fresh new era of theatre production.
Dax has not jumped from one field to another within the entertainment industry but uses his vast experience to bring all areas together for every project seeing his artistry as growth so to continually work in all sections of entertainment and production.
